PlayGround is a 10-week long Performer Development Programme (PDP) aimed at adult performers of any age or experience and will be led by Tid FairGround’s Joint Artistic Director.

The course offers training in specialist theatre skills including physical theatre, devising and cross disciplinary performance, and aims to challenge common approaches and perceptions of theatre.

The methods of the programme are informed by a range of theatre and non-theatre practices including Lecoq based performance techniques, bodyweather movement/manipulations, voice exploration, theatrical musicality, dance and martial arts.

Performers who train on the programme may then be invited to work with the company creating future productions.

Wordplay is a part time 10-week Writer Development Programme (WDP) aimed at anyone interested in writing for theatre. The course will be led by FairGround’s Joint Artistic Director Adam Peck on Tuesday evenings (unless there is overwhelming demand for the this to be changed to another week-night) between 6.30pm & 10pm.

The course offers training in the principles of playwriting and how these can be applied to devised theatre and non-script-based performance.

The workshop environment will encourage participants to write and have their work read, developing off-the-cuff writing skills and the confidence to share work. A typical session would consist of a discussion of a particular playwriting principle and practical advice on how that might be applied to a specific project. This would be followed by a writing exercise to explore the issues discussed and "performances" of participants’ work.

The methods of the programme are informed by the writings of various writers and theorists such as Robert McKee, David Mamet, Tim Etchells and Roland Barthes, and draw on Adam’s experience of writing for performance and adapting stories for the stage.

Writers who train on the programme may be invited to work with the company creating future FairGround productions.

FairGround's artistic plans for 2008 include a new one act show called WHERE YOU CAN'T FOLLOW (for artsdepot, London in February) and a new full-length play called THE RED MAN (for Tobacco Factory, Bristol in June).

NoIsebox  is a part time 10-week long development programme aimed at anyone interested in developing their voice and its capacity in physical performance, spoken word, expression and song. NoIsebox will be led by Peter Reynolds, Fair Ground’s Associate Artist.

NoIsebox  will work from the voice and look at the connection to physical performance, word and the expression of intent. It will look at the voice as a tool of dramatic expression. Song will be seen and used as an expression of any given dramatic situation. We will look at character of voice and character of harmonics. By playing with sound and tonal harmonies we will investigate the resonance of emotion existing between the physical body and the vocal body. NoIsebox will focus on the voices of the participants, their bodies and the space we are in.

Participants who train on the programme may then be invited to work with the company creating future productions.

"So much inspiring stuff and food for thought."
